Covid-19 has been limiting us for the last couple of weeks and the media pops up with lots of articles on symptoms, statistics and information about Germany and other countries. It´s not that easy to form an opinion on this matter, I have therefore decided to put out some recent numbers to help judging the situation a little better.
The general question is if the government has taken the appropriate decisions in relation to the harm it has caused by its restrictions. Any decision would have to be taken under the consideration of the physical, psychological and economical health of its population.
The German government has stated that the reproduction number “R” (the number of infections caused by an infected person) has to be kept under 1 in order to not strain our health care system.
The following numbers have been taken from the “Robert-Koch-Institut” (supreme federal agency for infection disease in Germany):

Two question arise looking at those stats: 1. Why did the government introduce a general restraining order on March 23rd if the number was already below 1 three days earlier and 2. Has the restraining order had a positive impact if the number still stands at 0,9?
More number:
The average age (meridian) of diseased people having contracted Covid-19 stands at a staggering 82 years. The rather strange procedure is that Hamburg is Germany´s only state that performs autopsies in order to find out what the diseased person had died off. This explains why Hamburg has “only” 79 registered deaths opposing the governmental number of 91 (April, 20th). Most of these people (I unfortunately couldn´t find a number) had various other diseases like cancer, too.
The total number of diseased people having contracted Covid-19 in Germany stands at 4.586 and in Hessen at 240 today, April 20th via John-Hopkins-Universitiy.
I will now put out some numbers regarding our well-equipped health care system and therefore focus on the intensive-care units. (via. Deutsche Interdisziplinäre Vereinigung für Intensiv- und Notfallmedizin date: 20.04.2020)
2.516 Covid-19 patients are currently treated in intensive-care units In Germany- 1.816 are ventilated with 11.529 intensive-care beds available. The numbers is Hessen are: 220 Covid-19 patients are intensive-care units of which 167 are ventilated with 2.101 beds free.
A total of 17.623 people in Germany were generally treated in hospitals thus far (source: Robert Koch Institut 18.04.20).
The total population in Germany stands at 83,02 million and 6,26 million in Hessen.
It is hard to put out numbers regarding the mortality rate of Covid-19 due to limited testing and the incorrect counting of cases, which most likely leads to a huge number of dark cases. The German virologist Professor Streeck is responsible for a survey of the “Heinsberg”, which has been the biggest spreading area of Covid-19 and his interim results lead to 0,37% mortality rate.
